William Kenneth 'Bill' Archibald  1934 - 2001  SHS 1952
OBITUARIES - BILLINGS GAZETTE - April 24, 2001

PETERSBURG, Va. - Bill was born in Helena, Mont., on Aug. 12, 1934, to William David and Kathryn Grinager Archibald. The family moved to Tulsa, Okla., and Jamestown, Md., before settling in Sheridan, Wyo., where Bill attended elementary school and senior high. He received his law degree from the University of Wyoming and joined the J.A.G. branch of the army.

While stationed in Virginia, he met his future wife of 42 years, Nancy Crowther. After his discharge, he returned to Sheridan to practice law. He was police judge for several years and managed to find time to sing in the Presbyterian Church choir. When their children started college, he and Nancy moved to her hometown of Petersburg where he became purchasing agent for the city of Petersburg.

After retiring, he led tours of several historical sites in Petersburg, his favorite being the Old Blandford Church, with its original Tiffany windows. His funeral services were held there on April 9, 2001.

Bill is survived by his wife Nancy; daughter Ann Heller, her husband Frank and their daughter Frances of Richmond, Va.; his son David and wife Sherry and their son Kenneth of Goldsboro, N.C.; his sister, Mary Kay Decker and her husband Peter of Billings, and their family, Karen of Kansas City, Mo., Kenneth of Billings, Susan of Tempe, Ariz., Steve of Kansas City, and John of Billings. Also surviving are two aunts, Ione Grinager Brendsel and Agnes Egge Grinager of Mayville, N.D.; and seven cousins, Tom of Coral Spring, Fla., Bob of Minneapolis, Beverly of Minneapolis, Sherri of Great Falls, Laurie of Bismarck, N.D., Jon of Mayville, and Paul of Irving, Texas.

Bill loved listening to classical music, antiquing and going to wooden boat shows. An old Chris-Craft cabin cruiser that he had "rescued" was almost sea-worthy at the time of his death on April 5, 2001.

He had been a loving grandfather for just three short years and will be greatly missed by his family and friends.
