SHERIDAN -- Funeral services for Roman J. Legerski Sr., 73, will be conducted at 10 a.m. Tuesday, Aug. 15, 2006, at Champion Ferries Funeral Home with Rev. Douglas Goodwin officiating. Interment will be in Sheridan Elks Cemetery.

Viewing will be held from 5 to 7 p.m. on Monday at the funeral home.

He died Wednesday, Aug. 9, 2006, at Memorial Hospital of Sheridan County.

He was born March 17, 1933, in Monarch, the son of George W. Sr. and Anna (Zowada) Legerski. He attended Monarch School, graduating from Sheridan High School. Growing up he worked with his father raising show bulls and learning the meat processing business.

He served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War. After his service he attended Sheridan College and managed the family ranch, later selling insurance and real estate. He eventually returned to the family's meat processing business, Sheridan Meat Company.

On Jan. 5, 1976, he married Norma Dunn in Sheridan. After Sheridan Meat Company closed, he returned to his father's original meat processing plant in Monarch and opened Legerski Processing until his retirement.

He was a lifetime member of Sheridan Elks Lodge #520, and enjoyed fishing, camping, and being with his family.

Survivors include his wife, Norma of Monarch; sons, Roman Legerski Jr. of Ranchester, and Tony Jr. and Ty Farella of Newcastle; daughters, Tammy Anthony of Sheridan, Lori Zowada of Sheridan, and Carol Rossman of Newcastle; brothers, George W. and John D. of Sheridan; sisters, Elizabeth Stanko of Gordon, Neb., Erma Pagliocca of Freehold, N.J., Anne Presenkowski of Denver, Colo., and Helen Siegoski of Buffalo; 20 grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents; sister, Olga Pilch; and an infant sister.

Memorials may be made to the Sheridan Elks Lodge #520.

Champion Ferries Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
