Halene LANDEN Graves 1933 - 2012 SHS 1951

Halene Landen Graves passed away peacefully at the home of her daughter in Castro Valley, CA on May 17, 2012. She was 78 years old.

Halene was born on November 29, 1933 to Si and Thelma Landen in Monarch, Wyoming. She attended Sheridan elementary schools and graduated from Sheridan High School and Sheridan College. She then earned her BA in Education from the University of Wyoming.

In 1955 she married Charles Pince of Riverton, WY and they farmed in Pavillion, WY where she spent several years teaching high school. They had two children, Lisa and Stephen.

She obtained a Masters Degree in Guidance and Counseling from Arizona State University in 1963.

In 1965 the family moved to a ranch on Lower Prairie Dog in Sheridan County. She returned to her alma mater, teaching business at Sheridan High School and eventually became a school guidance counselor. In subsequent years she was the guidance counselor for the Shoshoni School District. After earning her Ph.D. in Counseling Psychology at the University of Wyoming she served as the school psychologist in the Douglas school system.

In 1985 she married Charles Graves, and they resided in Cheyenne for 10 years.

After retirement the couple spent time in Sheridan and Tucson, Arizona, where Halene especially enjoyed watching the Rockies spring training baseball games. Halene and Chuck also traveled extensively around the world and enjoyed a very active social schedule.

Halene showed true dedication to education and helping others by serving as treasurer for the Wyoming Education Association, and volunteering for the Meals on Wheels program in Cheyenne. She also served on the Sheridan Mental Health Board and the Wyoming State Senior Citizen's Board. She was invited by Wyoming Governor, Mike Sullivan, to serve on the Wyoming State Parole Board for several years.

Halene is survived by her daughter Lisa Pince (George Schienbein) of Castro Valley, California, son Steve Pince (Pam) of Riverton, Wyoming, stepdaughters Kim Mason (Ralph) of Denver, Colorado, and Kristen Kyriacou (Stephanos) of Louisville, Kentucky. She also enjoyed the love of several grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Halene was preceded by her husband, Charles Graves, and her parents Si and Thelma Landen.
