Ronald Lee HARTMAN Deceased 2016 SHS 1951

Ronald Lee Hartman, age 82, passed away on May 10, 2016, in Orem, Utah. He will be buried at Veterans Memorial Cemetery in Riverton, Utah. Ron was born to Edward Marshall Hartman, Sr. and Virginia Coffman Hartman in Clarksburg, West Virginia. Ron moved to Sheridan with his parents and brother in 1937. He attended Sheridan city schools and graduated from Sheridan High School in 1951.

Ron joined the United States Marine Corp on the last day of High School. He received an exceptionally high score on his General Classification Test and was interviewed by high ranking Marine Corp officers for an appointment to United States Naval Academy at Annapolis, Maryland. After boot camp, he was assigned to technical training schools in Florida and Tennessee. He was the number one student in a class of approximately 800 students. He was retained as an instructor in the Airborne Radar Department of the school. There he taught navy and marine personnel which included Neil Gillis and Quentin Bilyeu, other Sheridan High School alumni. While in Florida, he was also coach, manager and president of Titusville Little League Baseball Program. He also had a pet alligator, Allie.

After discharge from the Marine Corp, He was employed by the RCA Service Company in EL Paso, Texas, where he taught army personnel at Fort Bliss, Texas. He attended the University of Texas at El Paso, (UTEP), majoring in Electrical Engineering. He was transferred by RCA to the Space and Missile Center at Cape Canaveral. While at Cape Canaveral, he provided radar support for all launch operations. His reports were sent to the contractors of the missiles being tested and to the Library of Congress. After 15 years, he accepted employment with Federal Electric Corporation at Vandenberg Air Force Base in California, the command center for the Western Space and Missile testing programs. He was employed in the Systems Performance and Evaluation Department and became Supervisor of the Radar and Telemetry Department and Metric Data Department. He retired in 1996 and moved to Utah.

Ron had three sons with his first wife, Esther Holden. Two sons preceded him in death, Ronald Hartman, Jr. and William Ray Hartman. Robert Hartman survives him. His third wife, Dona Stephenson Hartman, preceded him in death. He is survived by two children, Rebekah Welker (Rob) and Joshua Hartman. He is survived by 8 grandchildren and 11 great grandchildren. He is survived by his sister, Mary Jane Grange, (Joe) of Taylorsville, Utah, and a brother, Charles Hartman of Sheridan, Wyoming. His parents and one brother, Colonel Edward Marshall Hartman, Jr. preceded him in death.

Services will be Monday, May 16, 2016 at 11 a.m. at Sundberg-Olpin Mortuary, 495 South State, Orem, Utah. Viewings will be Sunday, May 15, 2016 from 6-8 PM at the mortuary, and Monday, May 16 from 9:30 AM – 10:30 AM at the mortuary, prior to the services. Burial will be at the Veterans Memorial Cemetery 17111 South Camp Williams Road in Riverton, Utah. Semper Fi.
