OBITUARIES - CASPER STAR-TRIBUNE - August 7, 2001

SHERIDAN - Funeral services for Quentin L. "Q" Bilyeu, 68, will be conducted at 10 a.m. Wednesday at Trinity Lutheran Church with the Revs. Ronald Nelson and Wilbur Holtz officiating.  Interment will be in Sheridan Municipal cemetery, Masonic No. 43 section.

Visitation will be today from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. at Champion-Ferries Funeral Home.

He died Aug. 3, 2001, at the V.A. Medical Center in Sheridan.

A Sheridan native, he was born May 18, 1933, to Claude and Ethel (Rowen) Bilyeu.  He grew up and graduated high school with the class of 1951 in Sheridan.  He was a member of the Bronc Football team and American Legion Baseball team.  He was the winning pitcher in the inaugural game of Thorne-Rider Stadium.  He served four years in the U.S. Navy, where he also played baseball.

He married Mona L. Brommer in Sherdian on Sept. 26, 1954.  After the service, he attended Sheridan College, graduating in 1959.  He finished his college education at Nebraska State Teachers College, now known as Chadron State, graduating Cum Laude in 1961.  He was a member of the Chadron State Eagles football team and was selected to the NAIA Scholastic All-American Football Team as well as being recognized as one of the top 10 punters in the nation's small colleges in 1960.  After college, he returned to Sheridan and worked as a coordinator in Physical and Medical Rehabilitation Services at the Sheridan V.A. Medical Center until retiring in March 1995.

He was a member of the American Legion and served on the board of directors.  He was also a member of Masonic Lodge No. 43, Bronc Boosters and Trinity Lutheran Church.  He enjoyed sports, old cars, reading and his grandson, Riley.

Survivors include his wife of Sheridan; three sons, Dan and His wife and Kyle, all of Bozeman, Mont., and Kean and his wife of Austin, Texas; on daughter and her husband, E'Lyn Marini; one sister, Maxine Gifford; one brother, Dan Bilyeu; one grandson; three stepgrandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Keith Bilyeu; and a niece, Claudia Plachek.
