Mary Darlene URBACZKA Speier 1932 – 2017 SHS 1950

Mary Darlene Speier died November 22, 2017 at McCrite Plaza. She was born May 31, 1932 in Sheridan, Wyoming, the daughter of George Frank and Nellie Anna (Luke) Urbaczka. She grew up in Sheridan and graduated in 1950 from Sheridan High School, and graduated from St. Mary College, Leavenworth, Kansas in 1954 with a Bachelor of Science degree.

Mary was employed as a Home Economist in the Home Service Department of the Oklahoma Natural Gas Co., Oklahoma City, Oklahoma in the mid-1950's. She then worked for thirty years in Federal Service. Those Federal Agencies included Department of the Air Force, Tinker AFB, Oklahoma; McConnell AFB and the Farm Credit Administration, Wichita, Kansas; Treasury Department, U.S. Savings Bonds Division, Topeka, Kansas; and the U.S. Railroad Retirement Board in Topeka, Kansas and also in Washington, D.C. She retired from Federal Service in 1988.

Mary was a member of Christ the King Catholic Church, charter member of the Sierra Club, National Association of Retired Federal Employees, and Saint Mary College Alumni Association.

She married Kenneth Alton Shaver, Jr. on September 17, 1955 in Sheridan, Wyoming. He died March 23, 1989. S he married Marvin John Speier on April 16, 1994 in Topeka, Kansas. He survives of the home. Other survivors include five step-children, Jerry Speier (Rose) of Topeka, Cynthia McIntyre (Rick) of Newtown, Connecticut, Jim Speier (Kathy)of Berryton, Steve Speier (Sheryl), and Bruce Speier all of Topeka, a niece, Jean James of Forest Knolls, CA. Three grandchildren, Aaron, Brandon, and Alyssa also survive.

She was preceded in death by two sisters, Elaine Michaels and Beverly James.

The family will receive friends from 9:30 until 10:30 a.m. Monday at Brennan-Mathena Funeral Home where a Parish Rosary will be prayed at 10:30 a.m. Following the rosary funeral services will begin at 11:00 a.m. Burial will be in Mount Calvary Cemetery.
