Gerald Tomas Barbula 1932 - 2012 SHS 1950

Gerald Tomas Barbula, at the age of age 79, a twelve year resident of Camarillo passed away on Wednesday, April 11, 2012.

Gerry was born on December 21, 1932 to William F. and Rose (Kuzara) Barbula in Monarch, Sheridan County, Wyoming. Both of his parents were first generation Americans of Polish descent. He was the youngest of four children and grew up on a farm with lots of work, fishing and family card games.

Immediately following his graduation from high school he enlisted in the United States Air Force, 1950 to 1954, spending time stationed in Europe during the Korean War.

After his discharge he settled in Burbank, California where he worked for Lockheed Martin for 35 years, retired in June of 1990. In the beginning he worked swing shift and attended California State University at Northridge on the GI bill graduating in June of 1964 with a degree in Business Administration.

He was a computer programmer in Flight Test Engineering for most of his career with Lockheed. After retirement he attended Santa Barbara College taking, what else, computer classes and enjoying our condo in Carpinteria.

Thanksgiving of 1960 he married Carla Diane George and together they had three sons, Bradley James, Mark Eric and Greg Thomas.

Gerry enjoyed participating in Leisure Village Farmers Club, the RV Club and Bingo. He was always ready to play "Hand & Foot", Pinochle, Cribbage, Chess or Polish Poker.

Gerald is survived by his wife, Carla, sons; Brad, Mark (Shana), Greg (Diane) and two granddaughters, Kendra and Michelle, and two grandsons; Griffin and Braeden. Survivors in Wyoming are his sister, Betty Turley Jacobson, brother Edward (Misty) Barbula, sister-in-law Arline Barbula and cousins too numerous to mention.
