Gayle KETCHAM Warne 1931 - 2019 SHS 1949

Gayle Warne, 88-year-old Buffalo woman, passed away Monday at the Amie Holt Care Center in Buffalo.

Gayle Lavonne Warne was born on October 19th, 1931 in Sheridan, Wyoming to to Homer and Berniece Katcham. She grew up in Monarch, Wyoming where she bussed into Sheridan schools. She graduated from Sheridan High School with the class of 1949. After high school she worked in the office of the Wyoming Coal Company for a short time. She was married in 1950 to Bob Warne and they made their home in Buffalo. In Buffalo, her roots began to spread, and she created her family tree that is still growing strong today. In the early 1980s, Gayle went to work for the Wyo. Bank and Trust where she worked for 31 years before retirement. In retirement, she went to work part-time at the Buffalo Children’s Center doing what she loved to do the most, being a Grandma to the children there. She also worked at the front desk of The Econo Lodge in Buffalo where she really enjoyed daily gossip with seasonal travelers and tourists.

Gayle enjoyed simple things, like playing cards, reading, travel, and needle crafts. Her passion was her family and if you were one of her children or grand-children you have seen all the backroads and fishing holes in the Big Horn Mountains and have been to all the playgrounds in a hundred-mile radius while eating hamburgers and ice cream. If there was ever a forest fire up in the Big Horns, you better believe Grandma Gayle was going to get you as close to it as possible from the highway! She was the master of picnics and spaghetti dinners, and could feed an army with food, and love.

Gayle is survived by two daughters, Connie Warne of Sheridan and Deb Warne of California; two brothers Garey Katcham of Sheridan and Ron Katcham of Idaho; and numerous grandchildren and great grandchildren.

Gayle was preceded in death by her parents Homer and Bernice Ketcham, three brothers Homer, Darrell, and Dwayne, her only son Robert Warne and her grandparents, aunts, uncles and cousins. A few of Grandma Gayle’s last words were “I’m coming home Mama.” Then while sleeping peacefully, she did just that.
