Charley R. Johnson, age 78, born in Sheridan, Wyoming in 1931 to Jay and Marguerite Shrader Johnson, lost his battle with cancer November 22, 2010 in Las Vegas, Nevada.

Charley was a successful businessman and consulting engineer for over 40 years in southern Nevada.

He graduated from Sheridan High School in 1949 and then served in the United States Air Force from 1951-1955. He served in Germany as a mechanic in the motor pool and played on the base basketball and softball teams.

He graduated from the University of Wyoming in June 1959 with a degree in civil engineering.

He worked for the city of Los Angeles prior to taking a job in the mid 60’s for VTN Engineering, headquartered in Southern California. In April of 1970 Charley was transferred to Las Vegas to work for VTN Nevada as their sole professional engineer. He soon owned the Las Vegas business with two partners and sold his ownership interests in 2003.

He was a registered professional engineer in the states of Nevada, Wyoming, California, Utah and New Mexico.

Charley was active in many organizations within Las Vegas, including over 35 years with the Southern Nevada Home Builders Association. He was actively involved in numerous issues of importance to that industry on the local, state, regional and national levels. Charley also served as a Clark County Planning Commissioner for over 20 years.

Charley was active in Republican politics and enjoyed golf, softball, and fishing.

Charley returned to Sheridan many years to attend his high school reunions.

He was preceded in death by his parents, brothers, John and Harry, and sisters, Barbara and Anna.

He is survived by his wife of 32 years, Susan, his children, Michelle (Craig Armstrong) and Mathew Muntean of Las Vegas, Gregory Johnson (Jill) of Utah, six grandchildren and brother, George Johnson, of Sheridan.

Charley was a friend to nearly everyone he met and over 600 people attended the celebration of Charley’s life at Shadow Hills Baptist Church on November 30, 2010. He will be interred at Veteran's Memorial Cemetery, Boulder City, Nevada.
