Elaine HULL Kavka 1931 -1997 SHS 1949

DAYTON - Memorial services for Elaine Kavka, 65, will be held today at 2 p.m. at the Dayton Community Church with Kevin McMahon officiating.

Mrs. Kavka died Feb. 9, 1997, at Sheridan Memorial Hospital after cardiac arrest.

She was born Nov. 26, 1931, in Olmstead Falls, Ohio, the daughter of Robert E. and Marguerite McCleary Hull. She attended schools in Arvada and graduated from Sheridan High School. She attended Sheridan College before marrying J. Russell Kavka on June 12, 1948.

She lived on and worked the farm and ranch homesteaded by her husband's parents six miles west of Spotted Horse until moving into Dayton in 1974. She was assistant manager of the Sheridan Skelly Truck Stop several years after that.

She loved her three daughters, friends and family, the state of Wyoming, music and trees. Her love of trees was evidenced by the numerous shelter belts she planted and watered on the Wyoming dry lands and the beautiful yard and tiny orchard she nourished in Dayton. She also started and maintained numerous Sunday night community jam sessions and sing-a-longs in Dayton and Ranchester and frequently sang with various organizations and groups.

Survivors include three daughters, Sandra Lynne Kavka Martin, Huron, S.D.; Cynthia Ann Cotton, Dayton and Karen Danille Kavka, Laramie; one grandchild, two nephews, two nieces, a son-in-law, a special "adopted" daughter, Cheri Fry, and many friends and neighbors.

She was preceded in death by her father in 1971, her mother in 1976; a sister, Ann Claybaugh in 1947; a brother, Robert M. Hull in 1974; a sister, Avid Dabney Hull in 1980 and her husband in 1981.

The family prefers memorials, in lieu of flowers, go for a special "living memorial" garden of trees and flowers to lie constructed in Dayton. An account is established at First Interstate Bank in Sheridan in care of Delphine Toner, P.O. Box 2007, Sheridan 82801.

Arrangements are with Champion Funeral Home.
