Emmett Bartlett "Bart" OLSON 1929 - 2009 SHS 1948

Emmett Bartlett 'Bart' Olson, 79, of Sundance passed away peacefully at his home Sept. 5 surrounded by family on his 55th wedding anniversary.

Bart was born Dec. 20, 1929, to Emmett and Doris (Rhode) Olson in Sheridan.

He was raised and attended school in the Sheridan area. He attended Sheridan Community College for one year before entering the U.S. Army.

Bart served during the Korean conflict. He returned to Sheridan and married Arlene Robinson in 1954.

He then attended the University of Wyoming and graduated with a bachelor's degree in geology.

Bart moved to Worland for a short time before settling in Cheyenne with his family.

He worked for the state of Wyoming for more than 33 years, building roads across Wyoming.

Bart retired and the couple moved to Sundance.

He enjoyed bowling, hunting, fishing, camping, boating and reloading. He was a 50-year member of the Masons and was a member of the Scottish Rite Shrine of Sheridan, Eastern Star and Sundance United Methodist Church.

Grateful to have shared his life is his wife, Arlene Olson of Sundance; four children, Gayle (Jim) Collins of Cheyenne, Mark (Susan) Olson of Sundance, Shelley (Mark) Allen of Cheyenne and Guy Olson of Sundance; one brother, Don (Dee) Olson of Worland; and six grandchildren, Travis Allen, Tyler Allen, Jamie (Nick) Gronski, Morgan Collins, Melissa (Adam) Clause and Megan Olson.

Bart was preceded in death by his parents; and infant daughter Karen.

The funeral will be 10 a.m. Wednesday at Sundance United Methodist Church with the Rev. Dave Moorman officiating. Burial will take place at Sheridan Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers memorials have been established to benefit; Sundance United Methodist Church, Shriner's Crippled Children's Hospital and Crook County Home Health.
