Michael Patrick "Kip" KENNEY Jr. 1925 - 2009 SHS 1948

Michael Patrick "Kip" Kenney, Jr. July 19, 1925 - Sept. 24, 2009. Resident of Hayward Husband of Patricia L. Kenney, who preceded him in death, devoted father of Michael J. Kenney, treasured grandfather of Stacey Harnish, Michelle Padagas and Michaela Kenney, great-grandfather of Christopher Kenney, Matthew Harnish, Madyson Harnish and Kieran Padagas, father-in-law of Martha Huante-Kenney and former father-in-law of Mary Kenney. Kip leaves behind six brothers and sisters; Gloria Best, Reynolds Kenney, Allegra Stevens, James Paulsen, Richard Kenney and Sandra Jelly. He also leaves a nephew, Richard Best and a niece, Cheryl Holm.

He was born in Canton, Ohio to Michael P. Kenney, Sr. and Almeda M. Mettie. He grew up in Akron, Ohio, Hollywood, Florida and Sheridan, Wyoming, where his father managed country clubs. Consequently, he developed a life-long passion for golf, introducing the game to his son and two of his great-grandsons.

He served in the U.S. Navy in World War II, as a crew member on Liberty and Victory ships in the European Theater. In 1953, Kip began his career as a member and full-time employee of the 129th Air Rescue Group of the California Air National Guard. He retired from full-time employment in 1980 and from military reserve status in 1983.

He loved big band music of the 1930's and 40's and passed this appreciation along to his son.

Friends and family are invited to visitation on Thursday, Oct. 1, 4:00 to 5:00 pm for family and 5:00 to 8:30 for friends. Funeral services will commence Friday, Oct. 2, at 11:00 am at Holy Angels Sorensen Chapel, 1140 B Street, Hayward.
