OBITUARIES - CASPER STAR-TRIBUNE - December 14, 2002

SHERIDAN - Funeral services for "Sonny" George B. Holmes, 72, will be held Friday at 2 p.m. at Kane Funeral Home in Sheridan, with graveside services to follow in the Sheridan Elks Cemetery.

He died Dec. 3, 2002, in Scottsdale, Ariz.

A native of Sheridan, he was born Dec. 4, 1929, in a private home to George and Emily "Judy" (Skepper) Holmes.

On Oct. 10, 1953, he married Dixie L. Ellis.  The had two children.

He ran the family ranch in Decker, Mont. for many years.  Upon retirement from ranching, he set up and ran a diesel mechanic shop, along with a trucking firm.

Besides enjoying trucking and doing mechanic work, he enjoyed playing cards, fishing, dancing, rodeos, traveling and his grandchildren and great-grandson.  He enjoyed going to Las Vegas with his wife in order to play in Pan Tournaments.  He was known as a generous person who helped a lot of people in their time of need.

He was a life member of Elks Lodge No. 520 and a member of the Kalif Horse Patrol, the Shrine and Blue Lodges, and the Eagles No. 186.

Survivors include his wife; his daughter, Shelly; two grandsons; one great-grandson; and one nephew.

He was preceded in death by his parents; one son, Mark Dennis Holmes; and a sister, Margaret Fleury.
