Donald Wendell HAMSTREET 1930 - 2013 SHS 1948

Donald Wendell Hamstreet, 83, of Sheridan passed away on March 15, 2013 at home of cancer with his loving wife by his side.

Don was the youngest of four children born on February 23, 1930 to Frank and Grace Victoria (Diehl) Hamstreet in Sheridan, WY. He graduated from Sheridan High School in 1948.

He began working for Sheridan Typewriter and Supply Co. (later known as Strehlow Office Supply), while attending High School. He also served in the Air Force from 1948 to 1951.

On April 19, 1953 he married Louann Camfield at St. Peter's Episcopal Church in Sheridan and to this union three children were born.

In 1962 he started Top Typewriter in their home on Big Horn Avenue, then moving to Coffeen Avenue (where Annie Greenthumb's is now) and later purchasing the City Cleaners building on Main Street. He remodeled the Coffeen Avenue and South Main Street locations, doing most of the work himself. He sold the business in 1979 to Charlie Bassett, which is now known as Top Office Products.

Don was very proud to become an Eagle Scout in 1947, and also that year was "Mayor of Sheridan" as Eagle Scout for a day. He was a member of the Sheridan Jaycees, Vice President and President of Linden School PTA, Lions Club, Royal Order of Jesters; Life Member of Elks Club #520 and Masonic Lodge #8; also, a member of Scottish Rite and Kalif Shrine.

When Don retired in 1979, land was purchased on the Red Grade and he designed and built a beautiful log cabin which was enjoyed by family and friends both summer and winter until it was sold in July 2004. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, four wheeling, snow machining, traveling and spending time with his family. He also enjoyed trying to beat the machines in Deadwood, Laughlin, Wendover and Las Vegas.

Don was preceded in death by his parents, step-mother, Zelma, sister, Janet King and brother Jim Hamstreet.

He is survived by his wife, Louann of 60 years, his children, Wendy Redder, Cory (Janet) Hamstreet of Sheridan, WY, and Carrie (Gary) Douglas of Tomahawk, WI. Five grandchildren; Kris (Amber) Powers, Ranchester, WY, Joni (Mike) Dupuis, Parkman, WY, Teri Redder, Sheridan, WY, Brandon Hamstreet, CA, Brittany Hamstreet, AZ, and two step-granddaughters, Ashley and Lindsey Aegerter. Six great grandchildren; Sierra and Kolten Powers; Kaleb and Gavin Chase, Madyson Dupuis and London Hamstreet. One sister; Billie Jean (Zeke) Ziemer of Queen Valley, AZ; sister-in-law, Hertha Colyer, Sheridan, WY, sister-in-law and brother-in-law Delores (Newell) Orr, Sun Lakes, AZ.

Cremation has taken place and a "Celebration of Don's Life" will be a Memorial Service at First Presbyterian Church at 11:00 am on Thursday, March 21, 2013, with Reverend Doug Melius officiating. Burial will be in the Columbarium at the church following the services.

Don has requested no flowers, but memorials to honor him may be given to the Crippled Children's Travel Fund, % Kalif Shrine, 145 W. Loucks, Sheridan, WY 82801.
