Robert Lewis BORLAND 1931 – 2020 SHS 1948

Robert Lewis Borland died peacefully in his sleep in San Clemente, California on February 14th, 2020.

He made his entrance into this world in Denver Colorado, born on April 22, 1931 and was adopted by Lewis and Almeda Borland. He was raised in Sheridan Wyoming with his two sisters Mildred and Gena. Robert graduated Sheridan High School, further receiving his BS in Bacteriology from Colorado A&M and attended USAF Staff College, Norfolk Virginia.

Robert made his career with the United States Air Force, retiring as a Colonel. His military career included working at the Pentagon, the MX and Minuteman missile programs, and partaking in Atlas, Mercury and the Gemini programs. He was part of the early defensive missile programs that led to peaceful use and the race to space in the late 1950's and early 60's and through-out his career. Following his military career, he spent 10 years as a consultant with Textron.

Bob was an avid traveler, seeing the majority of the United States as well as Europe, Australia, Canada and Asia. You could find him on the local golf course, fishing many waters including beloved Fraser, Colorado. He cherished his time as a water color artist. Robert wore many hats, Scoutmaster of Troop 1145, leading his troops on several 50 mile canoe trips through Canada.

He was a member of the Laguna Beach United Methodist Church, Niguel Shores Garden Club, Men's Club, and held several Chairman Positions for the Niguel Shores Committee. Robert also volunteered as a clinical trial participant which led to his leukemia remission and extended his time here on earth with us.

Robert was an amazing man, social and lively, loved a good laugh, parties, music and dancing.

He is survived by his wife Georgia Bentley Borland, his children David (Theodora), Douglas, Janet, Daniel (Heidi), and step-son's Brad, Scott and Peter. Grandchildren Tara, Andrew, Kellie, Jennifer, Shane and step-great grand-daughter Leitisha "Sugarbee", and last, but not least, his Daisy Girl.

He was preceded in death by his first wife Lyta Lavonne Borland, and his daughter Kathryn Lynn Borland.

Robert will be laid to rest at Ft. Rosecrans National Cemetery in Point Loma, California with L. Lavonne on August 13, 2020.

Donations can be made in Robert's name to his favorite charity, The Arbor Day Foundation and One Tree Planted.org. Honoring Robert L Borland, the Borland Family is planting seedlings in a Western State National Forest.

Honorable, leadership and duty to family and country, Robert will be missed by all.
