Richard "Dick" E. Shanor, 88, of Cheyenne, died on Monday, October 31, 2016, in Cheyenne.

He was born on January 14, 1928, in Dayton, Wyoming.

Soon following Dick’s birth his mother and father, Myrtle and Delmer Shanor, moved to a ranch in Passaic, Wyoming. When Dick was ready for grade school, the family moved to Sheridan where he lived until he attended the University of Wyoming.

At the University, he was a member of the varsity track and football teams and a member of the 1951 Gator Bowl Champion team. He graduated in 1951 and promptly joined the USMC, achieving the rank of 1st lieutenant. Following his honorable discharge from the military, he and Jean Ebenhahn were married in Jean’s hometown of Torrington, Wyoming.

They had two children, Richard Lee and Janie. Dick was a rancher, real estate developer, businessman, and all-around Wyoming entrepreneur. He was an avid University of Wyoming supporter and in particular the athletic programs at the UW and Wyoming high schools.

He and his family lived in Casper, Wyoming; Beaumont, Texas; Bellevue, Washington; and Jackson, Story, and Cheyenne, Wyoming.

Dick was very friendly and knew many people. He was an animal lover who received great pleasure out of his horses and dogs. He was one of the best riders in Wyoming.

He had three brothers and one sister, each having predeceased him; Jack, Don, Bob, and Margaret Ghramm; five grandchildren being Dicky Shanor, Caroline Shanor, Jeanette Tatum, Carly Tatum, Sydney Tatum, and one great-grandchild, Miriam Shanor.
