James William JUNE 1927 - 1996 SHS 1947

A mass of Christian burial for James W. June was celebrated at 11 a.m. Tuesday, May 7, 1996 at the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, 900 Hitching Post Drive, Green River. The Rev. Bruce Clapham officiated. A wake service with rosary was recited at 7 p.m. Monday, May 6, 1996 at the Vase Funeral Chapel in Green River. Sister Betty Lorenz officiated. Military graveside services and interment were in the Riverview Cemetery in Green River.

Pallbearers were Justin Bonomo, Cass Cole, Brian Hambek, John Anastos, Jim Brinkerhoff and Don Van Matre.

Honorary pallbearers were Jim Arnoldi, Lawrence Madsen Sr., Gerald Oppelhams, Gary Bailiff, George Lev, Shane Cole, Tyler Bonomo, John Anselmi and Dwayne Kerr.

June, 69, of 375 Jensen St., Green River, died at 12:45 p.m. Friday, May 3, 1996 at the Castle Rock Convalescent Center in Green River.

A resident of Green River for the past 35 years and former resident of Sheridan, June had been in ill health for the past one year.

He was born on March 16, 1927 in Casper, the son of the late Adrian D. and Elizabeth Wadick June. He attended schools in Sheridan and entered the U.S. Navy where he served during World War II.

He married the former Lorraine VarBerkum in Sheridan in 1946 and she preceded him in death in 1989.

June attended the University of Wyoming and graduated with a master’s degree in bird biology. He worked as a bird biologist for the Wyoming Game and Fish Department for 33 years until his retirement in 1989.

June served on the Green River City Council for four years He was a member of the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, the State Historical Society and the VFW Club of Green River.

Survivors include one son and daughter-in-law, William A. and Debbie June of Las Vegas; three daughters and sons-in-law, Mary Kay and William R. Bonomo of Green River, Beth and Larry Madsen of Casper, and Peggy and Joe Filipowicz of Cascade, Mont.; 10 grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
