SHERIDAN, Wyo. - Noel Hicks served on the faculty of the University of Michigan for the past 22 years.

He was a graduate of Sheridan High School and the University of Wyoming. He received his Phd in mathematics at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology.

He died Friday at age 49 at the University of Michigan Medical Center.

Born in San Antonio, Texas, he was a son of Major General Joseph L. and Iris Hicks.

Survivors include a son, Timothy of Ann Arbor, Mich.; a daughter, Jessamyn Hicks of Berkeley, Calif; a sister, Irish Stone of North Hollywood, Calif.; his father, of Medford, Ore.; and his mother, Iris Marquess of Big Horn.

Services will be Friday at 2 p m. in St. Peter's Episcopal Church. Cremation has taken place.
