David B. FULLER 1929 - 1998 SHS 1947

SHERIDAN, Wyo. - David B. Fuller, age 69, of Sheridan, died Thursday, May 14, 1998, at his Sheridan home.

He was born Jan. 5, 1929, in Sheridan, to Lawrence S. and Clara (Fowler) Fuller. He grew up on the ranch, attending elementary school and graduating high school in Sheridan. He graduated from the University of Wyoming in 1951 with a B.S. degree in animal science and served in the Marine Corps during the Korean Conflict.

He married Barbara Jean Scott on Oct. 11, 1952, at the First Congregational Church in Sheridan and they lived on and he managed the Fuller family Lazy YC Ranch at the mouth of the Little Big Horn Canyon. He retired from ranching in 1989 and they moved into Sheridan. David then served as the executive director of the Big Horn Forest Grazing Permittee,s Association.

He was a lifetime member of the Wyoming Stockgrowers Association, and in 1997 received their prestigious "Guardian of the Grasslands" award for exemplary service to the livestock industry. In 1992, he was voted "Outstanding Alumnus" of the University of Wyoming College of Agriculture.

David was an active member of the National Beef Cattlemen Association, Wyoming Heritage Society steering committee, Wyoming Taxpayers Association executive committee, Wyoming Farm Bureau, Chamber of Commerce, Rotary Club, Elks Lodge No. 520 and the board of directors of the Sheridan Heritage Center. He served as a county commissioner and as chairman of School Dist. 1 West, being instrumental in the reorganization of the district. He served as a member of the UW Council for Ag Research, Extension & Teaching (CARET) as well as on the UW Advisory Board to the School of Environment and Natural Resources (SENR). David was very active in and had been moderator of the First Congregational Church-UCC. Cattle ranching, church, family, community and agriculture service were David's passions.

He was preceded in death by his brother, Lawrence Fuller Jr., and sister, Annie S. Fuller.

He is survived by his wife, Barbara Fuller of Sheridan; sons, David B. Fuller Jr. of Laramie, Dr. Thomas S. Fuller of Brevard, N.C., Stephen L. Fuller of St. Louis, Mo.; brothers, Elisha J. Fuller, Col. ret., of Omaha, Neb., Charles F. Fuller of Wyola, Mont.; and six grandchildren.

Viewing will be from 2 until 6 p.m. on Sunday, May 17, from Ferries Funeral Home. Funeral service will be 12:30 p.m. on Monday from the First Congregational Church with Pastor Terry Wall and the Rev. Ray Clark officiating. A reception will be at the church immediately after the service. Private interment will be in Sheridan Elks Cemetery later in the afternoon.
