SHERIDAN -- Funeral services for Arnold "Fay" Bethurem, 78, will be at 10 a.m. Thursday, May 22, 2008, at Kane Funeral Home with Pastor Brian Johnson officiating.

He died on May 17, 2008, at Westview Health Care Center.

He was born on April 27, 1930, to Harrison "Arnold" and Geneva (Brundage) Bethurem in Sheridan. Upon high school graduation from Sheridan High he enlisted in the U.S. Navy in 1947.

During his stint in the military he served in Guam, during the Korean Conflict, and in Davis, Calif., at the Naval Radio Station. He was honorably discharged on August 22, 1955.

He married Williscene "Billie" L. Johnson on Nov. 16, 1950, in Sheridan at the Presbyterian Church.

He loved picnics and gatherings with family and friends, especially during the holidays. He enjoyed the mountains, fishing, and hunting.

He was very particular when decorating the Christmas tree.

He was a member of the Shrine Oriental Band and had a great time performing in the area parades.

He was a volunteer at the Sheridan VA Medical Center.

He was a chairman and a board member for many years with the Sheridan School District Number 2.

He was a member of the Big Horn Mountain Eagles #4169, the American Legion, the VFW, and was a life member with the Sheridan Elks Lodge 520, as well as the Big Horn Mountain Masons #43.

He is survived by his wife, Billie; son, Kip Bethurem and his wife all of Sheridan; daughters, Keri Bethurem formerly of Gillette, and Konni Bethurem-Mitchell and her husband of Ellinwood, Kan.; five grandchildren; and brother Conrad Bethurem of Sheridan.

He was preceded in death by his parents; a younger brother; and a grandson.

Kane Funeral Home is handling arrangements.

In lieu of flowers the family has requested that memorials in his name to the Shrine Travel Fund, 145 W. Loucks, Sheridan, WY 82801.
