James Leroy THOMPSON 1928 - 1990 SHS 1946

WORLAND, Wyo. - James Leroy Thompson was a policeman for the Sheridan Police Department until moving to Worland in 1960. He then became the Worland police chief in 1964, retiring in 1979. He also worked as a process server for the Washakie County sheriff until 1982.

He was a member of the American Legion in Worland and Wyoming Peace Officers Association. He enjoyed growing flowers and working in his wood shop.

Mr. Thompson, 62, died Thursday in his home after a long illness. A son of Lawrence and Dorothy B. Smith Thompson, he was born and educated in Sheridan, graduating from high school in 1946. He entered the U.S. Army in 1945, and served as a military policeman in the Philippines. Following his dis-charge he returned to Sheridan.

On Feb. 25, 1950, he married Jacque F. Kearns in Sheridan.

Survivors include his wife; his mother, Dorothy Perry of Sheridan; a son, Gary of Worland; a daughter, Gwen Treanor of Worland; and a granddaughter.

No services are planned. Cremation has taken place, with ashes to be scattered at a later date.
