Denis Bruce SMITH 1928 - 1997 SHS 1946

CASPER - Services for Denis Bruce Smith, 68, will be conducted at 10 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 16, 1997, at the First Christian Church by Dr. Bryant Badger. Cremation has taken place and burial of the cremains will be conducted at Oregon Trail Veterans' Cemetery at a later date.

Mr. Smith died Aug. 6, 1997, at Life Care Center in Casper.

He was born Nov. 1, 1928, in Sheridan, the son of William and Emily M. (Codenys) Smith. He graduated from Sheridan High School and attended the University of Wyoming for one year. He then attended Western Union Technical School and became an office manager for Western Union.

He served in the U.S. Army from 1951-53 in Japan and Korea, attaining the rank of corporal. After his discharge, he moved to Bellingham, Wash., where he attended Bellingham Business College, graduating in 1956.

Mr. Smith met and married Dorothy Weeda in Lynden, Wash. They moved to Casper in 1956 and he went to work as an accountant and later field auditor for the State of Wyoming Employment Security Commission. He retired in 1988.

He was active as a volunteer in the Boy Scouts for 33 years. Mr. Smith served as a deacon for the First Christian Church and was active in the Men's Fellowship. He was a member of the Willard School PTA; and a charter member of the Thermopolis Elks Club, Veterans of Foreign Wars Post No. 10677, and the WESC FCU. After retirement, Mr. Smith became involved in community activities such as Meals on Wheels.

His main hobbies were reading and watching television.

Survivors include his wife of Casper; two sons, Duane Smith of Casper and Jeff Smith of Hollis, N.H.; a daughter-in-law; a grandson; a brother, Henry Smith of Green River; two sisters, June Lohse of Dayton and Darlene Mancini of Sheridan; three step-grandchildren; 11 greatgrandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Memorials to either the First Christian Church Scholarship Fund or Boy Scout Troop No. 13 would be appreciated by the family.
