Beverly Mae POEHLER Newman 1928 - 2013 SHS 1946

Bev Newman, 85, Billings resident since 1956, passed away on Saturday, March 30, 2013, at the Tender Nest assisted living complex. Cause of death was congestive heart failure as a complication of diabetes.

Beverly was born in Minneota, Minn., on Feb. 27, 1928, to Mabel and Lloyd Poehler. The Great Depression forced the family to frequently move to find work but the family found a permanent home in Sheridan, Wyo., in 1942.

Beverly lost her father in the Pacific Theater during WWII while he was serving in the Navy. Her mother raised her and her brother, Lloyd "Butch" from then on. She graduated from Sheridan High School and worked for the Sheridan VA Hospital before marrying Ken Newman, also of Sheridan, in 1948.

Beverly, Ken and family moved to Billings in January of 1956 when Ken was promoted at Ryan's Grocery (now SUPERVALU).

Beverly was involved in her sons' sports, the household pets, the family cabin and her passion with oil painting. A self-effacing amateur, she was commissioned to paint several projects for local organizations.

Beverly is survived by her son, Kent (Kari), grandson, Erich (fiancé Amy) , and brother, Lloyd (Dora) all of Puyallup, Wash., and husband, Ken, of Billings.

She was preceded in death by her son, Lance, in 2003.

Cremation was provided by the Cremation & Funeral Gallery of Billings. Following Beverly's wishes, no memorial services are planned.

Memorials may be made to the Alzheimer research organization of your choice.
