Patricia "Pat" Ann PAPE Smith 1929 - 2000 SHS 1946

SHERIDAN - Services for Patricia "Pat" Ann Smith. 71. will be conducted at 10 a m. Monday at St. Peter's Episcopal Church, with the Revs. Ray Clark and David Duprey officiating. Interment will follow in Elk Cemetery in Sheridan.

She died Dec. 14,2000 at Memorial Hospital of Sheridan County.

She was born Aug. 5. 1929. in Johnstown. Pa., the daughter of Delbert H. and Neila (Nelson) Pape. The family moved to Sheridan in 1938, where she attended Linden Grade School and graduated from Sheridan High School. She attended Northwestern University and was a member of Alpha Xi Delta Sorority.

For more than 20 years, she was an active member the Sheridan County Republican Central Committee, serving as a committeewoman. secretary, vice chairman and the first woman chairman. She was an alternate to the National Conventions in 1972. She progressed through the chairs of the Wyoming Federation of Republican Women and became president in 1973. She was a delegate to the national conventions in 1972 and 1973 and was listed in "Who's Who in American Politics” and "Who's Who of American Women."

She was a member of St. Peter's Episcopal Church. In later years, she became interested in family genealogy and wrote "Our Part of the Hon Family" and helped with two other family genealogy books.

Survivors include two sons, Thomas A. Smith of Sheridan and David M. Smith of Los Angeles,

She was preceded in death by a son, Steven Nelson Smith: a sister, Miry Jane Maury; and her parents.
