Jordan Edward HORKAN 1928 - 1999 SHS 1946

CASPER - Memorial services for Jordan Edward Horkan, 71, will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Our Savior’s Lutheran Church, with the Revs. Nathan Doerr and Kate Schlechter officiating. Private family burial will be at Oregon Trail Veterans Cemetery with military rites accorded by the Natrona County Veterans Council.

He died Oct. 30, 1999, in the presence of his family at Wyoming Medical Center.

He was born March 28, 1928, to Edward and Bella (Bradbury) Horkan, in Billings, Mont. He graduated from Sheridan High School in 1946 and attended the University of Wyoming.

He served twice in the U.S. Navy, from January of 1946 to November of 1947, and from January of 1951 to May of 1952, on a patrol boat in the Pacific, and on the U.S.S. Fulton, a submarine in the Atlantic, respectively. He was issued the WWII Victory Medal and was given an Honorable Discharge for both periods of service.

He moved to Casper in 1957, and was married May 29, 1958, to Carmen Thompson, a teacher in the Natrona County School District. They remained in Casper, where his business career included employment with Tripeny Motors, Bankers Investment, Johnson Brothers Furniture, Avco and First Interstate Bank.

Survivors include his wife; four children, Daniel, Julie Green, and Jo Marie Horkan, all of Casper, and Christine Hoskins of Dallas, Texas; two cousins; and six grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents and stepbrothers and sister, Robert and Glendale Arrison and Dorothy Fair.
