Darold Evan BRANDT 1928 - 1997 SHS 1946

BROOKINGS, Ore. - A private memorial service for Sheridan native Darold E. Brandt, 68, was held on April 26, 1997 at Scantlin's Mortuary.

Mr. Brandt died April 21, 1997, at Good Samaritan Nursing Home in Brookings, Ore., after a 10-year illness.

He was born May 10, 1928, in Sheridan, where he grew up and went to grade and high school. He attended Julliard School of Music in Minneapolis. He was a talented drummer and played in several bands in Sheridan and surrounding areas. He was also a drummer in the American Legion Drum and Bugle Corps in Sheridan.

On Sept. 30, 1955, he married Arleen C. Sturdevant of Sheridan.

He was accepted into the U.S. Border Patrol in August 1957. During his 30-year career in the Immigration Service, he served in El Paso, Texas, Calexico, Calif., Indio, Calif., Omaha, Neb., Anchorage, Alaska and Seattle, where he retired in October 1988. During his lifelong career, he received many commendations, including one from Attorney General Rogers in 1960 for his outstanding accomplishments in the use of firearms.

Survivors include his wife of 41 years of Gold Beach, Ore.; three sons, John Brandt of Fairbanks, Alaska and Gary and David Brandt, both of Anchorage, Alaska; one daughter, Kimberly Monfrey of Fairbanks; three grandsons, two brothers, Keith of Sheridan and Gary of Rock Springs and an aunt of Sheridan.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Heart Fund or to the Alzheimer's Association.
