Roger Stevens Bent, 81, of Sheridan, WY died Friday, July 24, 2009, in Billings Clinic, Billings, MT.

Roger was born March 20, 1928, in Sheridan to Roger & Berenice (Stevens) Bent.

Roger grew up in Story, WY and graduated from Sheridan High School.

He served in the U.S. Army during WWII.

After the service, he went to the University of Wyoming and graduated with a degree in accounting in 1951.

Roger married Thelma Oliver on June 13, 1950, in Fort Collins, CO. They moved to Sheridan in 1951 and he worked as a bookkeeper for Stevens Fryberger, Sheridan Flour Mill, Mid Continent Oil and Harker Mellinger Accountants until he retired.

He was a member of Elks Lodge #520, Story Library Board and a past master of Masonic Lodge #43.

Roger loved his family and his cat “Farby” and enjoyed tending his garden in Story, fishing and having coffee with his buddies.

Roger was preceded in death by his parents, wife Thelma in June, 2009 and his sister Barbara Walters.

Roger is survived by his son Roger M. Bent, daughters Carol Doughty and Mary Carroll all of Sheridan and one granddaughter.

Viewing will be 9:00am until 4:00pm on Thursday (July 30th) from Champion Ferries Funeral Home. Funeral service will be 10:00am on Friday from St. Peter’s Episcopal Church with the Rev. Kevin Jones officiating. Interment will be in Sheridan Municipal Cemetery, Elks Section. Arrangements are with Champion Ferries Funeral Home.
