Winifred A. WRIGHT Vaughan 1928 - 2006 SHS 1945
Winifred A. Vaughan 78 of Hastings, Nebraska died Tuesday March 28 at Omaha Methodist Hospital after a brief illness. According to her wishes, cremation has occurred.

A celebration of Winnie’s life will take place at 11:00 a.m., Tuesday April 4, 2006 at the First Presbyterian Church in Hastings, Nebraska; Reverend William G. Nottage-Tacey and Reverend Cheryl A. Elfond officiating. Lunch will follow in Fellowship Hall.

Winifred was born on March 20, 1928 to Wilbur and Hazel (Backus) Wright in Sheridan, Wyoming. She graduated from Sheridan High School in 1945 and from Hastings College in 1949. After graduation she taught high school journalism, English, drama and math classes in the Wolbach, Aurora, and Blue Hill, Nebraska school systems.

Thomas C. Vaughan and Winifred were married on August 9, 1952 at the First Presbyterian Church in Sheridan, Wyoming. They settled in Blue Hill, Nebraska where Tom, his father Byron, and brother Bill published the Blue Hill Leader and operated a commercial print shop. The family moved to Hastings, Nebraska in 1960 to open Vaughans Printers, Inc.

Winnie was the secretary at the First Presbyterian Church in Hastings, Nebraska from 1980 to 1993. She was a lifelong member of the Presbyterian Church and served as a Deacon, member and officer of Presbyterian Women’s Organization, Church Circle, Stephen Ministry, Chapter FH of the P.E.O. Sisterhood and the YWCA.

Winnie was preceded in death by husband Thomas (November 5, 1995), her parents, and infant son, Thomas Edward (1953). She is mourned and celebrated by her children and their families David W. Vaughan, Martin Stupich, Katherine A. Vaughan, Alison Cobb, James B. Vaughan, Louise Vaughan; grandchildren Tyler and Sophia; sister Betty Parker of Fort Morgan, Colorado and nieces and nephew. Winifred had a full and happy life and will be dearly missed.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials be directed to Hastings College Music Department for The Winifred Vaughan Memorial Fund, or to First Presbyterian Church Winifred Vaughan Stephen Ministry Memorial Fund in Hastings, Nebraska.
