Avis Elizabeth WERNER Powell Waddell 1927 - 2004 SHS 1945

A funeral mass for Avis Elizabeth Waddell, 76, formerly of Campbell County, was at 10 a.m. Thursday at St. Patrick Catholic Church in Holyoke, Colo., with the Rev. Dan Zimmerschied officiating.

Burial was in the Alliance Cemetery in Alliance, Neb.

Mrs. Waddell, of Holyoke, died Saturday, Feb. 7, 2004, in Thornton, Colo.

She was born Aug. 21, 1927, in Spotted Horse to George Werner and Sadie Mae (Norbeck) Werner.

She was raised on a homestead ranch and was the seventh of 11 children. She graduated from Sheridan High School.

In 1947, she married Dean W. Powell. They raised four children; Teri, Gary, Dan, and Elizabeth on a dairy farm outside of Alliance.

She married William Waddell in Sheridan in 1972. She lived there until moving to Holyoke to be closer to her family.

While in Holyoke, she worked at the Golden Plains Motel and at the Holyoke Elementary School. She loved the children and enjoyed watching them as they progressed from kindergarten to graduation.

Mrs. Waddell enjoyed reading, making chocolate chip cookies for her grandchildren and watching her soap opera, "Days of our Lives." She was a member of the St. Patrick Catholic Church in Holyoke and a member of the Jolly Dozen Extension Club.

Mrs. Waddell is survived by her four children, Teri Ferguson of Denver, Gary Powell of Haxtun, Colo., Dan Powell of Sheridan, and Elizabeth Powell of Las Vegas; a brother, Rupert Werner of Recluse; sisters, Mary Fowler of Rapid City, S.D., Marguerite Honley of Denver, Patricia Hanford of Worland, and Christina Mitchell of Gillette; and stepchildren; step-grandchildren; one great-grandchild; nieces; and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; brothers, Tom and George; sisters, Lorraine, Cecilia and Frances; her two husbands; and one granddaughter.

Roberts-Baucke Funeral Service in Colorado was in charge of arrangements.
