Lloyd SCHREIBEIS 1926 - 2008 SHS 1945

SHERIDAN -- Funeral services for Lloyd Schreibeis, 82, will be at 10 a.m., Saturday, July 12, 2008, at Immanuel Lutheran Church, with Pastor Kirk Peters officiating. Interment with military honors will follow in the Sheridan Municipal Cemetery.

He died surrounded by family on July 5, 2008, at the Veterans Hospital in Sheridan, after a long battle with cancer.

He was the oldest child born to George and Violet (Lupton) Schreibeis in Buffalo. He and his family moved to the Schreibeis family ranch on Tongue River. He attended school at the Wagner School and Acme School. He graduated from Sheridan High School in 1945.

He married Josephine “Josie” Blevins on March 3, 1944.

In 1945, entered the Army and served in the Pacific in WWII. He was discharged in 1946, and became a partner on the family ranch.

In 1948, he began working part-time for Big Horn Coal. He also worked various road construction jobs during the summers and worked in the coal mine the rest of the year.

In 1959, he and his wife purchased their dairy ranch on Prairie Dog Creek where they resided until they moved into Sheridan in 1965, due to his health.

He retired from Big Horn Coal in 1991.

After retirement he assisted his daughters in their businesses and babysat his grandchildren.

He enjoyed working on cars.

He and his wife enjoyed square dancing, polka dancing, traveling, spending time with family and friends, and spending time in the Big Horn Mountains hunting, fishing, camping and viewing wildlife.

He was a member of the American Legion, Antique Car Club, Collector’s Club, and Sheridan Historical Society.

In his later years he enjoyed working in the yard, watching the weather channel and bull riding on TV, having lots of Christmas lights, and in the last month his rides around the neighborhood in his wheel chair.

He is survived by his wife, Josie, daughters, Norie Rowland and her husband, Rita Gorzalka and her husband, Nita Schreibeis all of Sheridan and Diane Kirol of Great Falls. 16 grand and great-grandchildren; siblings and their spouses, Darleen Schunk and Norman Schreibeis of Sheridan and Gene Schreibeis of Worland, and one aunt and one uncle; as well as a large extended family.

He was preceded in death by his son, Melvin; and a son-in-law.
