Elton H. Robinson, 83, of Sheridan, WY, died Monday, April 11, 2011 in Westview Health Care Center.

Mr. Robinson was born July 11, 1927 in Sheridan, WY to Percy H. and Ethel W. (Wade) Robinson. He grew up and attended schools in Sheridan, graduating from Sheridan High School in 1945.

Elton served in the U. S. Navy Sea Bee’s where he was stationed on Guam, and while there, learned the carpenter trade. After the service, Mr. Robinson returned to Sheridan, and married V. Jean Pointer in Sheridan on May 6th, 1950.

Elton was a carpenter and began his career in carpentry working for Albert Bull and C. Ray Williams. He then went to work for Joe Fletcher May 23, 1955 part-time and on October 56, 1955 started full-time and worked 38 straight years for Fletcher Construction Company as a carpenter and supervisor, retiring on August 27, 1993. Over the years Elton trained many employees in the expertise of carpentry. Some of the major projects that Elton was involved with was the Hunter Ranger Station, the Golden Dome, Dayton Water Treatment Plant, the Sheridan County Fulmer Public Library, Holy Name Catholic Church, the Sheridan Press Building, Highland Park School addition, Holly Sugar Research Station, the big Horn and Tongue River Schools, the OB-GYN Medical Building, Montana-Dakota Utilities, the Peter Kiewit Shop, the Veteran’s Affairs Medical Center water treatment plant, First Interstate Bank remodel, numerous other businesses in the Sheridan area, along with numerous area ranches and residences, including his own home. He was very dedicated to his skill and took pride in his work with his favorite being finished carpentry

Away from his job, Elton assisted family and friends with projects and remodeling. He was a teacher and mentor, offering patience and guidance. He had a strong work ethic and high standards in his skill and life. Elton loved fishing, especially with his family, hunting, camping, and shooting. He enjoyed growing a vegetable garden and enjoyed the mountains and being outdoors. Elton also enjoyed sports, especially the Denver Broncos, NASCAR, and watching college basketball.

Elton loved his family, enjoyed enjoying get-togethers, meals, holidays and was always eager to hear about activities, events, and travels. His love, gentleness, perseverance, knowledge, strength, and dedication to family will be missed.

Mr. Robinson was a member of the First United Methodist Church, and a member of the Carpenter’s Union in his early years.

Mr. Robinson was preceded in death by his parents; and sister, Frances Hamilton.

He is survived by his wife, V. Jean Robinson, of Sheridan, WY; two daughters, Judy A. Armstrong, and Jody (Bill) Clouthier, both of Sheridan, WY; one sister, Arlene Olson, of Sundance, WY; grandchildren, Joshua and Gabriel Armstrong, Betsey Romulus, (Emmanuel), Max Livingston, Amanda Holmes, (Travis), Jacob Clouthier, (Sarah); great grandchildren Mitchella, Jayce, Andreanna, Nathaniel, Gavin, Griffin and Grayson; and special friends Dr. Bill and Carol Doughty.

Funeral service will be 10:00 A. M. Friday, April 15, 2011 at the First United Methodist Church with the Rev. Don Derryberry officiating. Interment will be in the Sheridan Municipal Cemetery. Arrangements are with Champion Ferries Funeral Home.
