SHERIDAN -- Memorial services for Arline E. Wood, 79, will be held at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, May 23, 2007, at St. Peter's Episcopal Church with Rev. David Duprey officiating. A reception for family and friends will follow at the parish hall.

She died May 18, 2007, at Sheridan Manor after an extended illness.

She was born Sept. 27, 1927, in Sheridan, to Jess M. and Rose E. (McDonald) Ellsworth.

She graduated from Sheridan High School in 1945 and married Harold W. Wood that same year in Billings, Mont.

She was a member of numerous organizations, including Daughters of the Nile, where she served as queen in 1976; Beauceant, Order of the Eastern Star, Akcita Win and various other social groups.

She worked as a telephone operator at Bell Telephone, where she met her lifelong friend, Bettye Wamhoff.

Her career also included medical secretary for the Schunk Clinic with Dr. Pete Schunk and administrative assistant for Whitney Benefits.

She loved spending time with her grandchildren and her dachshund. She spent many pleasant hours tending flowers in her flower gardens and many weekends at the family cabin in the Big Horn Mountains.

Survivors include three children, Darlene Gilkey, Ron Wood and his wife and Bob Wood and his wife, all of Sheridan; 12 grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren and three great-great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews who will all miss her greatly.

In lieu of flowers, the family has requested memorials in her name to the Kalif Shrine Center Children's Hospital Travel Fund, P.O. Box K, Sheridan, 82801 or to the Sheridan Dog and Cat Shelter, 84 E. Ridge Rd., Sheridan, 82801.

Cremation has taken place.

Kane Funeral Home is handling arrangements.
