Gene DOZAH 1927 - 1990 SHS 1945

POWELL, Wyo. Gene Dozah, 62, died in his home Tuesday afternoon of an apparent heart attack.

He was born Sept 7, 1927, in Butte, Mont, a son of Dale and Mary Jablin Dozah. He moved with his family to Wyoming as a child and was educated in Sheridan and graduated from Sheridan High School. He then served two years in the U.S. Navy during World War II. He completed his education at Colorado State College in Greeley, where he swam competitively.

He married Patricia J. Golden in Sheridan on Oct. 7, 1949.

He taught two years in LaMesa, Calif., before beginning a 33-year teaching career in the Powell schools in 1956. He retired last year. He was Powell High School's first swimming coach, initiating the program and serving as first manager of Powell Natatorium Indoor Swimming Pool in 1956. He coached the Powell swimming team for 23 years, during which time his team won five state championships and finished second five times. He was a member of the Wyoming Coaches Hall of Fame. In recent years, he and his wife, Pat, had managed the Pro Shop at the Powell Municipal Golf Course.

Survivors include his wife, Pat of Powell; two daughters, Mrs. Gary (Debbie) Mefford of Powell and Denise Dozah of Missoula, Mont.; a sister, Mrs. Lorraine Mooney of Casper; and two grandchildren.

Memorial services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday in the Union Presbyterian Church. Cremation has taken place.
