Alice Evelyn BARTHOLOW Zimmerschied 1927 - 2011 SHS 1945

Alice Evelyn Zimmerschied passed away January 26, 2011 at the Wyoming Medical Center of congestive heart failure a condition she had battled for 17 years.

She was born January 19, 1927 in Echeta, Wy. to Gerorge and Elizabeth (Campbell) Bartholow. Her Aunt Helen Arndt served as Mid-wife due to a blizzard that prevented the Doctor from Gillette arriving by train.

Alice attended general grade schools each of which was located by the railroad since her father worked for CB&Q railroad. These included Felix, Wakley and Leiter, WY. She attended and graduated from Sheridan High School in 1945.

On June 10, 1946 she married Raymond Zimmerschied in Hardin, Mt. She was “Rich” on the day they married she had $15 and Raymond had $10!

On May 27, 1947 Stephen R. Zimmerschied was born in Sheridan, WY. He drowned in an accident July 11, 1948.

They went on to have 5 more children, Bruce (Anne) of Sheridan, Roy (Margaret) of Casper, Jerry of Tonopah, AZ, Gail (Bruce) Rafuse of Casper and Amy (Jeff) Odom of Williston, ND. Alice was active in the PTA of Poison Spider School which all of her children attended. She never turned down the chance to chauffer on field trips, basketball and football games or track and cross country meets.

During the late 1960’s and early 1970’s she worked in the nursery at El- Marko bowling alley.

She was a member of the Christian Church of Casper.

Alice is survived by her husband Raymond, her children, and 4 sisters, Elsie, Marian, Margie & Louise. Survivors also include 12 grandchildren, 7 step-grandchildren and numerous great-grandchildren and several nieces & nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, 2 siblings, her son Stephen and grandson.

Burial was held at Oregon Trails State Veterans Cemetery.

A celebration of her life will be held Saturday, February 5, 2011 at 1:00 at Christian Church of Casper (formerly Vista West Christian Church). Family and friends are asked to wear colorful attire.

Donations may be made to Christian Church of Casper or Central Wyoming Hospice.

Services are entrusted to Newcomer Funeral Home.
