CASPER -- No services will be held for Henry Zowada, 81, who died Dec. 14, 2007, at Wyoming Medical Center with his wife and daughter by his side.

He was born Jan. 16, 1926, in Monarch, the son of Joseph Zowada and Theresa (Washut) Zowada. He graduated from Sheridan High School.

He joined the Army in 1944. During World War II, he fought in the battle of Normandy at Omaha Beach. He became a sergeant, and received the Bronze Star for distinguished service during combat while serving in the European-African-Middle Eastern Theater of Operation. After the war, he was a courier for the United States Government in Europe.

Upon his return in 1948, he attended college at Emery Riddle Aviation School in Opa-Locka, Fla., and then in Burbank, Calif., studying to be an airplane mechanic and pilot. He graduated from Cal Aero Tech in Burbank in 1950.

On Jan. 26, 1952, he married Mary Lucas, and they later returned to Wyoming.

He worked at Mountain Bell and US West Telephone Company in Sheridan and Casper, and was a member of the Telephone Pioneers. He had many hobbies, including photography, video processing, and carpentry.

Upon his retirement from US West, he and his wife took numerous cruises, and traveled to Alaska, Hawaii, Panama, Russia, the Mediterranean, Scandinavia, Africa, Asia, and Mexico. He enjoyed traveling and exploring new cultures. . Survivors include his wife of Casper; daughters, Stephanie Mardekian of Hillsborough, N.J., Suzanne Zowada of Casper and Samantha Besler of Laramie; and six grandchildren.

He was loved very much by his family and will be deeply missed.

Memorials may be made to a charity of the donor's choice.

Newcomer Family Funeral Home will be in charge of arrangements.
