OBITUARIES - CASPER STAR-TRIBUNE - February 14, 2002

SHERIDAN-Funeral services for Sheridan resident Franklin Dwain "Doc" Holbrook, 75, will be conducted at 2 p.m today at Champion-Ferries Funeral Home by Pastor Stephen Anselmo.  Interment will be in Sheridan Municipal Cemetery.

He died Feb. 11, 2002, at his home.

He was born June 11, 1926, in Sheridan, the son of Dr. B.F. and Phila (Wilson) Holbrook.  The family moved to Thermopolis and Worland before returning to Sheridan in 1934, where he attended Linden School.  In 1944, he graduated from Sheridan High School.

In high school, he was a champion in ping pong and horseshoes; played football; and was active in the Latin Club and National Honor Society.

In 1944, he enlisted in the U.S. Army.  After basic training at Camp Roberts, Calif., he was sent to Europe and wounded in March 1945 by a sniper in France.  For a short time, he attended the University of Bern, Switzerland, before being sent home and discharged in May 1946.

He worked for United Geophysical Co. until entering Northwestern College of Chiropractic in Minneapolis, where he graduated in 1951.  He practiced in Worland until moving to Casper in 1956.

In 1968, he married Joanne Hoveland in Casper.

An excellent bowler, he bowled a 300 game in 1960, held 13 state titles, and was inducted into the Bowler's Hall of Fame.

In june 1999, he returned to Sheridan.

In Casper, he was a member of the Church of the Open Bible; and, in Sheridan, Our Father's House/Open Bible Church.  He also belonged to the Wyoming and American Chiropractic Associations.

Survivors include his wife of Sheridan, two sons, Gus Holbrook and John Holbrook, both of Casper; three sisters, Myra Collins of Phoenix, Marva Nye of Chadron, Neb., and Mereen Klein of Phoeni; five grandsons; and numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by a sister, Myrtle Verden; and a brother, Dale.
