Ellyn Mae HARRIS Sandall 1925 - 2014 SHS 1944

Ellyn Mae Harris Sandall went to be with our Lord on Thursday June 12, 2014, at 89 years of age. She will be tremendously missed as a beloved wife, daughter, sister, mother, Grandmother, Great Grandmother, and friend to many.

Ellyn is survived by Francis E. Sandall, her husband of 68 years, and a loving family.

She is the beloved daughter of Ross and Stella Harris, and sister of Everett Harris, who preceded her in death, and who are all now rejoicing together with the Lord.

Ellyn's brother Grayle Harris, who is 93 years young, is coming from Florida with his daughter and son-in-law Mava and Chuck Reif, to be with the family during this time.

Ellyn was richly blessed with family including three daughters, Vanna LaRene Creed, Marla Irene Sandall and Laura Ellyn Jackson, along with spouses John Jackson and Tom Creed, and ten grandchildren and ten great grandchildren. Ellyn will be lovingly remembered by her family and many lifelong friends who are comforted by decades of happy memories made with her.

Ellyn was born at home on a farm in Arvada Wyoming, July 11, 1925. She often reminisced of those childhood years and her close relationship with her two brothers. There were barn raising dances, followed by sleepy rides home in the family wagon, snuggled in her mother's quilts. She learned her "3 R's" in the schoolhouse built by her own father. She and her brothers tramped through the woods, walking on logs across rivers … pretty scary stuff for a little girl, but she knew they would protect her no matter what!

Following graduation from Sheridan High School, Ellyn traveled by train to Seattle Washington to work as a secretary in the Navy Ship Yard during World War II. Later, she returned to Sheridan and worked for the Sheridan Press, pounding the pavement in her beloved high heel shoes, selling advertisements to local main street businesses. In later years Ellyn's various employment included bookkeeping and clerking for Greyhound Bus Lines, Air Condex and the Carrollton-Farmers Branch School District.

Ellyn and Frank were high school sweethearts who enjoyed dating in Frank's Model A Ford with rumble seat, painted in their school colors of bright blue and gold. They were married in the Sheridan Episcopal Church February 2, 1946 while Frank was on leave from the United States Navy at the end of World War II. Daughters Vanna and Marla were born in Sheridan, prior to the family move in 1952 to Los Angeles, where daughter Laura made their family complete.

Ellyn enjoyed spending warm sunny days at the beach with her children, but never learned to swim. In 1968 the family moved to Dallas Texas where Ellyn made rich, lifelong friendships.

Ellyn was passionately dedicated to her family and friends, and lived her life always putting others first. She was faithful to share her belief in the Lord Jesus Christ as her personal Savior. Her heart's desire was to point others to Christ and often advised to "take it to the Lord in prayer." She was a faithful prayer warrior to friends and family alike and a member of Sojourn Church. Ellyn loved making home-made bread and "kneaded" in prayers for those who would enjoy her fresh-baked loaves. And… was there ever a woman with more style and fashion sense? She loved beautiful clothes, high heeled shoes, perfectly styled hair --- and everything purple!!

Ellyn's memorial celebration will be held at Allen Family Funeral Options, 2120 W. Spring Creek Pkwy. Plano Texas, on Monday June 16, 7:00-9:00 pm. and everyone is welcome. Private burial follows at the DFW Veteran's National Cemetery.

If desired, donations may be made to Sojourn Church, 4041 Marsh Lane, Carrollton, Texas 75007, in Ellyn's honor.
