OBITUARIES - CASPER STAR-TRIBUNE - April 10 2006

WHEATLAND -- A funeral for Robert J. "Bob" Dreher, 80, will be conducted at 10 a.m. Tuesday, April 11, 2006, at Gorman Funeral Homes-Platte Chapel with Father Kevin Koch officiating.

Interment with military honors accorded by the Sturgis Honor Guard will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday, April 12, in Black Hills National Cemetery in Sturgis, S.D., with Father Jack Birdsall officiating.

Visitation will befrom 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. Monday.

He died Friday, April 7, 2006, at Platte County Memorial Hospital.

Born Jan. 19, 1926, to Roselie (Kracker) and John Dreher in Sheridan, he was raised and educated there and graduated from high school in 1944.

He was in the U.S. Navy during World War II from October 1944 to August 1946, and served in Guam.

On Nov. 19, 1946, he married Rosemary Petersen in Shelton, Neb.

He graduated from Hastings College in Hastings, Neb. in 1951.

The couple moved to Alliance, Neb., where he worked for the Alliance Times-Herald; then to Rapid City, S.D., where he worked for the Rapid City Journal.

He and a partner owned Western Publishing in Rapid City. In 1968, he purchased the Platte County Record Times, from which he retired in 1981. He sold it to Lindsay Publishing.

He enjoyed fishing, flying, annual fishing trips to Canada, restoring old cars, and building model airplanes and ships. He was a member and past president of the Wheatland Lions Club, a member of American Legion Ora Call Post No. 10, and served on the board of directors of First State Bank from 1980 to 1989.

Survivors include his wife; two sons, Mike Dreher and his wife of Wheatland, and Bill Dreher of Palm Springs, Calif; two stepgrandsons; four stepgreat-granddaughters; and one stepgreat-grandson.

He was preceded in death by his parents, two sisters and a brother.
