James Richard CATTERALL 1924 - 2013 SHS 1944

James "Rich" Catterall, 89 passed away at Sheridan Manor on friday October 18th.

Richard was born April 17th in Monarch,Wyoming to James and Rose Catterall. He attended school in Kleenburn and Monarch Wyoming and graduated from Sheridan High School.

Richard served in WW11 in The United States Navy in The South Pacific Theater. He was Radioman Second Class on The U.S.S Schley-APD-14 from 1943 to 1946. He returned home to marry his lifetime sweetheart, Janette Allen on August 3rd, 1947 in Sheridan. They celebrated their 66th Wedding Anniversary this past summer.

Richard worked for the Sheridan Wyoming Coal Company known as the Monarch Mine until 1950. During that time, he was a "Motorman" and a "Nipper". His career continued with Mountain Bell Telephone Company until his retirement in 1979.

He was life member of The Elks Lodge, American Legion, Sheridan County Sportsman Association and the Amateur Trapshooting Associaton. He had the honor to be inducted in The Wyoming State Trapshooting Hall of Fame. He was also a member of the Big Horn Mountain Polka Club.

Richards passion was working countless hours in his woodworking shop. The light was always on.

He enjoyed bowling, playing softball and was Coach "Richie" for the Decker Coal girls softball team.

His travels took him to Trapshooting Events and lots of Polka Dancing. He was a very dedicated volunteer. Building the family cabin in the Big Horn Mountains was truly a joy. Richard loved his whole family and was a wonderful caring husband, father, grandfather, Uncle, and friend.

Richard was preceded in death by his parents and three loving sisters, Betty [Cap] Rawlings, Caroline [George] Tamllos, and Sarah [Ed] Hartman.

He is survived by his wife and two daughters, Michele [Bruce] Karlsson, and Beth [Steve] Ruby. By his grand- children Leanne [Ryan] Richardson, Allen Cluff and numerous nieces and nephews. He will be greatly missed.

The Family wishes to extend their gratitude to the Staff of Big Horn Mountain Medicine and Sheridan Manor for their kindness and support.

A Celebration of Life will be scheduled in April for family and friends.
