Robert A. BUCKLEY 1926 - 1970 SHS 1944

SHERIDAN - An unusual two-car accident shortly after 10 p.m. Thursday took the life of a veteran postal clerk, Robert A. Buckley, 43. Police said he was killed instantly when the rear of his jeep pickup was struck by a car driven by William D. Redle, Sheridan lawyer.

The Buckley vehicle had run out of gas up the hill on Vale St., traveling north from Loucks St. Buckley pulled over to the far right of the street and got off to get his extra five gallon can of gasoline. As he was about to put the gas in the empty tank, the Redle car struck.

Coroner John Ferries said there will be an inquest Saturday at 4 p.m. in Champion's Funeral Home.

Mrs..Redle was in the car with her husband and was taken to Memorial Hospital with lacerations of the right leg.

Buckley was born in Sheridan Sept. 8, 1926, and had lived here all of his life.

He was president of the Postal Employes’ Union and an elder of the First Christian Church.

He was a veteran of World War II.

Survivors are his wife, Evelyn, whom he married Sept. 25, 1946, in Sheridan; his daughter, Mrs. Diana Enzi of Gillette; two sons, Dale, in the U. S. Army stationed at Fort Polk, La., and Duane of Sheridan, and a daughter, Dixie, also of Sheridan; his father, Jerry Buckley and a brother, Jim, both of Sheridan.

Services are tentatively set for Tuesday at Champion's Funeral Home.
