OBITUARIES - CASPER STAR-TRIBUNE - January 31 2005

SHERIDAN -- Memorial services will be held for Harley Glen Bartenhagen, 78, at 10 a.m. Tuesday at First United Methodist Church with the Rev. Don Derryberry officiating. Cremation has taken place under the direction of Kane Funeral Home.

Inurnment will follow in the Sheridan Elks Cemetery with military honors.

He died at Sheridan Manor on Friday, Jan. 28, 2005.

Born March, 29, 1926, in Casper to William and Eleanor (Purkey) Bartenhagen, he grew up in Sheridan and graduated from Sheridan High School.

He joined the Navy in March 1944 in Bremerton, Wash., and served on the aircraft carrier USS Belleau Wood until his honorable discharge in May 1946.

After returning home from military service, he worked as a nursing assistant at the Veterans Administration Hospital, and later worked in engineering in the hospital's water and sewage treatment plant.

After retirement he enjoyed traveling, camping, hunting, fishing, and most of all his grandchildren. He taught many of his boys and many of the neighbor children how to work on bicycles, motorcycles, and cars.

He was a life member of Elks Lodge No. 520.

He married Mary Moshovsky in 1950 in Sheridan.

Survivors include his three sons Steven Bartenhagen of Denver; David Bartenhagen of Williston, N.D.; and Keith Bartenhagen of Oklahoma City; a daughter Lexie Culligan of Sheridan; nine grandchildren; sister Eunice Hansen of Sandy, Utah; and brother Carl Bartenhagen of Sheridan.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his sister Lois Miech, and his half-brother Wesley Hoffman.
