James H. AUSTIN 1926 - 2015 SHS 1944

James H. Austin, 89, of Sheridan, passed away on Thursday, December 10, 2015 at Sheridan Memorial Hospital in the comfort and warmth of his family.

He was born the youngest of five children to George and Agnes (Mills) Austin on August 19, 1926. Jim grew up in Sheridan, graduating from high school in 1944.

After graduation, he enlisted in the US Navy, being the youngest man on the USS Bosque destroyer ship, serving in the Korean War and the Elution Islands. After the service, he went to work in the United Postal Service until retirement.

Jim married Edythe (Babe) Anderson on July 12, 1950 and had four children. They both had many years together until her death in 2007.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, siblings, William, Robert, Jack, and Mary, and a son, James Austin, Jr.

Jim is survived by his son, George (Jackie) of San Antonio, TX; and two daughters, Helen (Larry) Austin and Gail (Mel) Austin of Sheridan; six grandchildren, Lorie, Jason, Rhonda, Casey, Kevin and Kim; and eight great grandchildren, Sioux, Dirk, Cassie, Austin, Colt, Cody, Liam, and Luca.

Jim will be greatly missed by his family.

Cremation has taken place. A Memorial Service will be held at 4:00 PM on Friday, December 18, 2015 at Champion Funeral Home with a reception to follow at the funeral home.
