Donald Lowell WELTON 1923 - 2015 SHS 1943

Donald L. Welton, age 91, passed away Sunday, August 9, 2015 at the Worland Healthcare & Rehabilitation Center in Worland, Wyoming.

Don was born in Sheridan, Wyoming on December 4, 1923, the son of Lowell and Hazel (Willey) Welton. He grew up in Sheridan and received his schooling there and graduated from Sheridan High School.

Don enlisted in the United States Navy in November 1943 and served his country during World War II on the USS Oxford (APA-189). He achieved the rank of Radioman Third Class and was honorably discharged on April 17, 1946.

Don married Shirley Claudine Hamlin on July 18, 1947 in Hardin, Montana. Shirley passed away on January 7, 1976. Don then met and married Dorothy Alice Smith on September 17, 1979 in Tahoe, California.

Don went to work for the Burlington Northern Railroad for a number of years and retired as Station Master at Basin, Wyoming. In his spare time, Don enjoyed building motorcycles, riding on motorcycles, and working on bicycles. He loved to hunt and fish.

Don was a member of the Masons Big Horn Mountain Lodge 43 in Sheridan, Wyoming, a member of the Elks BPOE Lodge #1431 in Greybull, Wyoming, and a past member of the Fraternal Order of Eagles Aerie #3086 in Basin, Wyoming.

Don is preceded in death by his parents, Lowell and Hazel Welton and his first wife, Shirley Welton.

He is survived by his loving wife, Dorothy Welton of Basin, Wyoming; daughters, Linda Wood of Stevensville, Montana and Mary Ann Davis of Basin, Wyoming; son, Dennis Moore of Napa, California; seven grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.
