SHERIDAN -- Memorial services for Charles Olson, 83, will be at 10 a.m. today, August 30, 2008, at St. Peter's Episcopal Church with the Rev. Kevin Jones officiating.

He died on August 27, 2008, at Memorial Hospital of Sheridan County.

He was born on April 29, 1925, in Fort Robinson, Neb., to John and Alice Olson. He was a 1943 graduate of Sheridan High School.

He enlisted in the Army in 1943 and served until his honorable discharge.

He spent 2 1/2 years in the South Pacific in the Asiatic Pacific Theater Philippine Liberation and received the Bronze Star and three Bronze Campaign Stars with Purple Heart.

He married Betty Sadler on Feb. 19, 1950, in Sheridan.

He retired as a supervisor of mails from the USPS in 1980.

Although the family always came first the Masonic Lodges and Shrine were an important part of his life, next was golf then the computer to keep track of the stock market.

He was always busy and loved helping others out whenever needed, he never knew a stranger.

He is survived by his wife, Betty of Sheridan; his children and their spouses, Steve Olson of Basin, John Olson of Sheridan, and Kathy Flack of Sheridan; six grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

Kane Funeral Home is handling arrangements.

In lieu of flowers the family has requested that memorials be made in Chuck's name to the Shriner's Children Travel Fund, PO Box K, Sheridan, WY 82801.
