Vincenzo "Jim" Mediate, 80, of Sheridan died Sunday, May 8, 2005, in Deaconess Medical Center in Billings.

Christian wake service will be recited 7 p.m. Wednesday at Kane Funeral Home. Mass of Christian Burial will be 2 p.m. Thursday with the Rev. Tom Ogg officiating.

Mr. Mediate was born Sept. 9, 1924, in Kleenburn to Carmella (Garreffa) and Frank Mediate Sr. He was a 1943 graduate of Sheridan High School.

He joined the Army soon after graduating and served during World War II in the Pacific and Asian theaters until 1946, when he was honorably discharged. He received the American Theater of Operations Ribbon, Pacific Theater Services Ribbon and the Good Conduct Medal.

He married Agnes Silver on June 12, 1949, in Butte, Mont.

Mr. Mediate managed the Bison Bar and XL Liquor and Lounge before buying the Mission Bar. He later bought the Bison Bar.

He was a member of Holy Name Catholic Church, the Elks Club, American Legion, Knights of Columbus and the Sheridan Liquor Dealers Association. He was a former competitor and judge in American Kennel Club Retriever Field Dog Trials and cashier for Knights of Columbus Monday night bingo. He enjoyed bird hunting and fishing with his son, gardening, and serving spaghetti and meatball dinners at the Elks Club.

Survivors include his wife; a son, Anthony of Sheridan; a daughter, Vicki Auch of Morgantown, W.Va.; a brother, Frank Jr. of Sheridan; four grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
