Andrew Long Jr., 84, of Laramie, died Friday, October 2, 2009 at Ivinson Memorial Hospital.

He was born on May 22, 1925 in Acme, Wyoming to Andrew Long Sr. and Mary Kadlak Long. He graduated from Sheridan High School in 1943 and shortly thereafter enlisted in the United States Navy as a Pharmacist’s mate _ 3 rd Class. During this time he cared for returning servicemen and POWs.

Upon honorable discharge, he returned to Laramie and graduated from the University of Wyoming with honors in 1950 as part of the first graduating class from the School of Pharmacy.

He continued his education at the University of Wyoming studying chemistry while working as an assistant professor for the School of Pharmacy.

He was a practicing pharmacist in Durango, Colorado, Greybull Wyoming and Worland, Wyoming prior to returning to Laramie.

He then worked as a research chemist for the Bureau of Mines Department of Energy in Laramie until his retirement in 1987.

He was preceded in death by his parents, siblings, Edward Long, Joseph Long, Mary Long Stefanik and one son Richard Paul Long.

He is survived by his wife of over 58 years, Mary “Migs” (Dow) Long of Laramie, and three children, Becky (Milton) Cox of Riverton, Andrew Long III of Cheyenne and Penny Odem of Parker, Colorado, one great grandson, Tanner Newsome of Evanston and one brother, William Long of California.

He enjoyed Wyoming, the outdoors, wildlife, UW Athletics, fishing, taking care of and spending time with his family.

A memorial service was held Wednesday, October 7, at 2 p.m. at Montgomery-Stryker Funeral Home.

A memorial fund has been set up for the Big Horn City Historical Society _ Andrew Long Memorial Fund P.O. Box 566, Big Horn, Wyoming 82833.

Services are under the directions of Montgomery-Stryker Funeral Home.
