Robert Lee EYCHANER   1926 - 1992   SHS 1943

STORY - Private family services for Robert L, Eychaner, 66, of Story, will be held at a later date.

Mr. Eychaner died Oct. 26, 1992, at his home in Story following a lengthy illness.

He was born June 14, 1926, in Story, the son of Milton and Alice Eychaner.  He graduated from Sheridan High School in 1943.

On Dec. 20, 1944 he married Bessie Graham in Hardin, Mont.

In 1943, Mr. Eychaner joined the U.S. Navy.  He served on the USS Belleau Wood during World War 11.  He then returned to Wyoming for a few years before serving aboard th USS Bon Homme Richard during the Korean War.  In 1960, Mr. Eychaner was a bombardier navigator at Whidbey Island, Wash.  He later served in the Vietnam War aboard the USS Ranger. Mr. Eychaner received the Distinguished Flying Cross for his heroism, and retired from the Navy in 1970.

Returning to Story in 1978, Mr. Eychaner was associated with Falcon Flight and vas a member of Whidbey Island Masonic Lodge No. 15 AF&AN.

Survivors include his wife, Bessie, his mother and stepfather, Alice and Frank Eychaner, all of Story; four sons, Scott of Seaside, Calif., James of Olympia, Wash., Chuck of Tirrenia, Italy, and John ot Richland, Wash. Also surviving are a daughter, Roberta Bhasin of Lakewood, Colo.; two brothers, John of Ranchester and Jim of Orange, Calif; two sisters, Dollie Reno of Story and Leah Morgart of Shoshoni and four grandchildren.

Memorials to the U.S. Navy Memorial Foundation in care of the Adams Funeral Home would be appreciated by the family.
