SHERIDAN - Funeral services for Sheridan resident Raymond D. Campbell, 80, will be conducted at 1 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 10, at First United Methodist Church of Sheridan by the Rev. Don Derryberry. Interment will be in the Elks Section of Sheridan Municipal Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. today, Nov. 9, at Champion-Ferries Funeral Home in Sheridan.

He died Nov. 6, 2004, at his home.

Born July 8, 1924, in Arvada, he was the son of Douglas M. and Mabel (Fillmore) Campbell; was raised and educated in Sheridan; and graduated from Sheridan High School in 1943.

He served in the U.S. Army for three years in the European Theater, seeing action in Normandy, northern France, Ardennes, the Rhineland, and Battle of the Bulge. After his honorable discharge, he returned to Sheridan.

In 1946, he went to work for the U.S. Post Office and retired Feb. 1, 1984, after 38.5 years of service.

On June 13, 1954, he married Belva Meinzer in the Methodist Church in Sheridan.

He was a member of First UMC and its men's group; a 55-year member of American Legion Post No. 7; a member of Sheridan Lodge No. 8, A.F. & A.M., and Royal Arch Masons Chapter No. 7; a 53-year member of Sheridan Council No. 3, Knights Templar; a member of Demolay Commandery No. 6; and a life member of Sheridan Elks Lodge No. 520.

An avid reader, he enjoyed spending time in the mountains; traveling; and, especially, spending time with his family and friends.

Survivors include his wife of 50 years of Sheridan; son, Gary W. Campbell, and his wife of Stafford, Va.; two sisters, Ann Mikkelson and her husband of Portland, Ore., and Bonnie Madden of Pensacola, Fla.; two grandchildren; and a great-grandchild.

He was preceded in death by his parents, a son, a granddaughter, a brother and a sister.
