Hugh Theodore BIRD 1925 - 2011 SHS 1943

Hugh Theodore Bird, 86, of Sheridan, WY died Sunday, December 4, 2011, in Sheridan Manor.

Hugh was born January 15, 1925, in Sheridan to Chauncey & Minta (Gibson) Bird. He graduated from Sheridan High School and went on to college in Fort Collins, CO & then served in WWII for the Marines.

After the service, he came home and owned a gas station for a few years with Ike Carroll, worked for Jersey Creamery for many years (in Hardin, MT, Casper, WY as well as Sheridan). He later sold real estate for Stan Kuzara, then opened his own office T Bird Realty, then KB Brokerage with daughter Stephanie. He owned the Helvey Hotel (Cady Building) for many years.

He married Lois Huson in February, 1952. They had three daughters together; Stephanie Bird Kendrick, Pam Atkinson (Tom) and Tina Mediate (Anthony). They later divorced.

Hugh enjoyed playing cards, traveling, going to the K Ranch, reading and wandering around "The Estate". He was a member of the Masonic Lodge, Kalif Shrine, Elks Lodge #520 and St. Peter's Episcopal Church.

Hugh was preceded in death by his parents, brother Forest (1976) and siblings; Dallas (Woody), Kenneth, Virginia McClintock and Helen Bird Pierce all in 2006; as well as by his companion Jonnie Catterall.

Hugh is survived by his daughters all of Sheridan; grandson Jake & Sam Kendrick, Christopher (Brenda) & Jonathon Atkinson and Phillip & Daniel Mediate; one great grandson Ben Kendrick as well as several nieces and nephews.

Memorial service will be 2:00pm on Thursday (Dec. 8th) from St. Peter's Episcopal Church with Father John Meyer officiating. Inurnment will be in the church columbarium. A reception will follow the service at the Sheridan Elk's Lodge, 45 W. Brundage St. Arrangements are with Champion Ferries Funeral Home.
