Orville M. "Spike" BADGET 1925 - 2009 SHS 1943
; Former Sheridan resident Orville Milton “Spike” Badget, 83, of Lovell died Saturday, Feb. 14, 2009, in Lovell.

Services will be 10 a.m. Friday at Grace Lutheran Church in Sioux Falls, S.D., with burial at Hills of Rest Memorial Park, Sioux Falls. Visitation begins 5 p.m. Thursday at George Boom Funeral Home in Sioux Falls. A Masonic service begins at 7 p.m.

Born April 30, 1925, in Sheridan to Orville Badget Sr. and Lula (Reed) Badget, he grew up and attended school in Sheridan, entered the U.S. Army in 1942, and served during World War II.

He married Ruth Bendixen on Sept. 24, 1955, in Luverne, Minn. The couple made their home in Sioux Falls. In 1966, they moved to St. Paul, Minn., where he was an iron worker. After retirement in 1987, the couple returned to Sioux Falls.

He was preceded in death by his wife on Sept. 8, 1997, and by a son, Michael.

Mr. Badget was a member of Grace Lutheran Church and John M. Bliss Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 628 in Sioux Falls. He was also a Mason with Trinity Lodge No. 200 and the Scottish Rite Bodies of Sioux Falls in addition to El Riad Shrine, where he was a longtime member of the Rickshaw Unit.

He was proud of the 13 years he spent in the military and that his two sons followed in his footsteps.

Survivors include two children, Ken Badget of Cowley and Sharon Eckhardt of Guernsey; eight grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may benefit Shriner’s Hospitals for Children through the El Riad Shrine in Sioux Falls.
